8th March is celebrated as Women’s Day all over the world. Everyone celebrates the spirit of womanhood. On this day, let’s remember all the great women who changed the world.

Susan B. Anthony

Susan B. Anthony, what’s the part of the Quaker family. She was one of the pioneers of activisms for women’s property rights, the right to vote and protests against women’s suffering. She tried to vote and got arrested. Her work inspired others to follow her.

Elizabeth Blackwell

Dr Blackwell’s life is also a huge source of motivation. She was the first women to a medical degree from an American medical school. It was a big struggle. She joined an all men’s medical school. Financing it, too, was a struggle. She started the New York Infirmary for Women and Children with Dr Marie Zakrzewska. Her sister Emily joined in. She also started a women’s medical college.

Marie Curie

We all know her as the only woman who won the Nobel prize in Chemistry and Physics. She was the first woman professor at the University of Paris. She was the first woman to obtain a science doctorate. She was truly a woman of science.

Annelies “Anne” Marie Frank

The famous novelist of The Diary of a Young Girl was indeed a brave woman. She was a survivor of Hitler’s wrath that caused anti-Jewish upheaval in Germany. She died in the Holocaust. Her book is deeply moving. It was published posthumously and literally, reduces people to tears.

Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf

For years Africa has been behind the world. The colonization has left a deep scar on Africa. Many African countries survive under debts. Ellen became the president of Liberia. She was the first woman to head a state in Africa. She helped in uplifting Liberia from debt. The freedom of Information bill was one of the significant milestones in her journey. She became a global icon against corruption, colonization, and dictators. She received the Nobel Peace Prize.

Malala Yousafzai

The world knows about the secondary position on women in Islamic states. Raising a voice in such territories for a simple thing as education requires vast strength. We all know the famous story of Malala Yousafzai. She raised her voice against the Taliban. She started blogging under the Taliban. She was 12 when she received het Nobel becoming the youngest recipient ever.

Benazir Bhutto

This woman changed the picture of Pakistan. She was a rebel right from the start. She started an underground organization against military dictatorship. She became the first women Prime Minister of Pakistan at 35 years! She worked on the social problems in Pakistan. She made healthcare, hunger and housing her top priority and reduced then. Unfortunately, she was openly assassinated while she was going for a rally. Benazir is truly an inspiration.

Shirin Ebadi

The first women judge of Iran, Shirin started her career as an Iranian Lawyer. After Khomeini’s revolution in 1979, she got dismissed. She was imprisoned as she raised her voice against the atrocities. She received her Nobel Prize in 2003 for her work on democracy and human rights, becoming the first Islamic woman to do so.
