Sakshi malik has finally ended Indian Olympic drought by clinching a Bronze medal in women free- style wrestling at Rio Olympics. She scripted history by winning the medal in 58 kg category, Sakshi became fourth Indian female after Karnam Malleswari, Saina Nehwal and MC Mary Kom got the opportunity to climb on the podium at the Olympics.
India had to wait for 12 days to win a medal in the big sporting event. She is the fourth Indian women to win a medal in the Olympics.
This 23- old women belongs to Haryana, where women were not allowed to compete in wrestling until some time. Her journey has not been easy so far .The 23-year-old started training young, having gained support from her parents to pursue the sport. Media sources say locals initially berated her parents, telling them that their daughter would become undesirable to potential suitors.
She eventually won a silver medal at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and a bronze medal at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
