Settling a Personal Injury Claim
When deciding whether to pursue a personal injury claim, it is important to understand the type of compensation you may be entitled to in your case. In general, this may include compensation for lost wages and medical expenses related to your injury. In addition, you may be able to receive damages for your pain and suffering and loss of enjoyment of life. In certain cases, you may also recover punitive damages if the defendant's conduct was particularly egregious. In addition to determining the value of your claim, you will need to decide how you would like to resolve it. In most cases, a settlement can be reached through negotiations between the insurance companies involved. This may be preferable to litigation because it is unlikely that a court will award as much compensation as you could recover if you were able to negotiate on your own behalf. However, if you cannot agree with the insurance company for your claim, it may be necessary to pursue legal action.
