Part 3: How To Install A Mudguard
There are a few different types of mudguards for mountain bikes, and each has its own advantages. Here's a look at the different types and how to install them: 1. Skid plate mudguard: This is the simplest type of mudguard, and it just attaches to the bike using bolts or screws. It's best for light riders who don't want to get too sweaty blocking the wind with a full-length guard. To install a skid plate mudguard, first, remove the front wheel. Mark the location of the mudguard on the bike frame, then use a drill to drill holes for the bolts or screws. Fit the bolts or screws into their holes and tighten them up using a wrench. Finally, fit the guard onto the frame and tighten it down using the wrench again. 2. Windscreen: A windscreen is a more complex type of mudguard that attaches to the bike using straps or hinges. It's perfect for heavier riders or those who want to keep their hair clean while riding in cold weather conditions. To install a windscreen, first, remove the front wheel. Mark where you want the windscreen to go on the bike frame, then use a jigsaw or saw to cut out the hole. Next, fit the straps or hinges into their corresponding holes on the bike frame and tighten them up using a wrench. Finally, fit the windscreen over the cut-out on the frame and tighten it down using the wrench again. 3. Full-length guard: A full-length guard is the most comprehensive type of mudguard and it covers both the front and rear of the bike. It's ideal for heavy riders or those who want to keep their hair clean while riding in cold weather conditions. To install a full-length guard, first remove the front wheel. Mark where you want the guard to go on the bike frame, then use a jigsaw or saw to cut out the hole. Next, fit the straps or hinges into their corresponding holes on the bike frame and tighten them up using a wrench. Finally, fit the guard over the cut-out on the frame and tighten it down using the wrench again.
