I will transplant your Heart!

Christiaan Barnard and his team of surgeons transplanted a working heart from one human being to another. The name of the patient was Louis Washkansky and the donor was Denise Davall. This 5 hour surgery consisted of Barnard and his team of 30 surgeons to transplant the heart and the heart beat without any prior medical assistance. This so called world’s first full heart transplant was completed in South Africa on December 3rd, 1967. Washkansky died from severe pneumonia, eighteen days later, but despite this setback, the surgery was a success with the heart continuing to beat until his death. This historic surgery has led to thousands of lives being saved every day.
