Are There Vegan And Vegetarian Sources Of Omega-3 Fatty Acids?
Algal oil is one of the few vegan sources of EPA and DHA, as it is generated from algae. If you're on a strict vegetarian or vegan diet, it can be taken as a supplement and is a decent substitute for fish oil. The most prevalent omega-3 in our diets is alpha-linolenic acid, but it must be converted to EPA or DHA before the body can use it. ALA is an omega 3 fatty acid found in plants, but only around 5% is converted to EPA and less than 0.5 percent to DHA. So, if you want to acquire good omega 3s from purely plant sources, you'll need to eat various foods. Chia, flax seeds, hemp, brussels sprouts, and walnuts are the finest plant-based omega 3 fatty acid sources.
