Anti-Cancer Properties

Turmeric is a powerful anti-cancer agent. The active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin. Several laboratory studies show that curcumin inhibits the growth of cancer cells.  Curcumin's anti-cancer effects are also confirmed in a Phase-I clinical trial, which was conducted on 25 patients with pre-cancerous changes in various organs. This study indicated that turmeric can prevent these pre-cancerous changes from advancing to cancer. Turmeric has anti-cancer effects in multiple myeloma patients. The substance inhibits the production of cytokines, a type of protein involved in cell proliferation and interstitial fibrosis. In addition to reducing the levels of cytokines, turmeric inhibits the production of TGF-b, a type of cytokine.
