It is going to be launched for 500 cities. 30% of the overall cost will be provided by the Central Government if the population is more than 10 lakh and, 50% if it is less than 10 lakh. The cities will be recommended by the state. 64 cities have been set aside for UP, 33 for Tamil Nadu, 37 for Maharashtra, 31 each for Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh, 30 for Rajasthan, 28 for West Bengal, 27 for Bihar, 21 for Karnataka, 19 each for Odisha and Haryana, 18 for Kerala, 17 for Punjab, 15 for Telangana and 10 for Chhattisgarh.
