America attained independence on July 4, 1776
We all know that the Declaration of Independence was signed by the founding fathers of America on July 4, 1776. However, it still didn't become independent! The war went on for seven more years. Independence was granted from Britain on September 3,1783 when Definitive Treaty of Peace was signed.

While July 4, 1776 marks the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, the vote for independence actually occurred on July 2, and Britain did not formally recognize U.S. independence until 1783. This makes the commonly cited date a simplified version of a longer historical process.
