Gaurika Singh is the youngest athlete competing at Olympics in Rio 2016.The 13-year-old Olympian Gaurika Singh represented Nepal at the biggest sporting event in the world. She also has the unique distinction of being the country’s first ever competitor in the swimming pool.
She was born in 2002 and migrated to London with her family at the age of 2, Her father Paras works as a consultant urologist at the Royal Free Hospital in London.
Gaurika Singh’s lasted precisely about one minute, 8.45 seconds. She came 32rd out of 34 competitors attempting to qualify for the 100metres backstroke. No sooner than it began, it was completed. But don’t mind. It is only her first experience of this elite competition and has a life experience to rival them all.
After all, she is only 13 years old. Even Though if she retires in 2032 after competing in the next four Olympics, she would still be just 29 and can even continue as she has all the age.
Last April she visited Kathmandu for participating in the national swimming championships and there was a devastating earthquake that killed 9000 people and left most of the natives homeless.she luckily escaped the earthquake and managed to hide under a table with her mother and little brother. She was shocked by the massive devastation and subsequently donated all her competitive winnings to the earthquake relief fund. “What a big heart she has”.
She scripted history at a very young age and brought glory to her country.Hope she brings laurels to her country by winning the next Olympic’s event.
