Every night your conscious mind shuts down and every morning you wake up, ready for a brand new day. But while the conscious part of your mind shuts down, your brain remains very much active throughout the night. Part of this brain activity generates what we know as dreams and nightmares.

Dreams are succession of images, ideas emotions and sensations that occur involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep. The content and purpose of dream are not perfectly understood though they have been a topic of scientific speculation, philosophical, religious interest throughout recorded history

Everyone dreams every single night and yet we tend to know so little about our dreams. Where do they come from? What do they mean? Can we control them and should we try to interpret them?

Here is the article that will clear the concept of dreaming

#1. RECURRING DREAMS- AN INDICATION OF SOMETHING TO HAPPEN.

Do you have the same nightmare or weird dreams over and over again? For ex- someone known or unknown person comes to you and indicates about death of one family member and in next dream again it happens indirectly. Then this is an indication of danger to that member. It is a fact and universally true. It actually take hold on subconscious part of our brain and make that thing happen.

#2. BOTH MEN AND WOMEN EXPERIENCE EQUAL AMOUNT OF SEX RELATED DREAMS

Did you think only men experience this phenomenon? NO its not! Women have orgasms during their sleep, just as men do. When women dream, she says, it’s not uncommon for their genitals to become engorged and lubricated. “This occurs during REM sleeps, which happens several times during the night,” she says. A similar thing happens to men. “Men get erections during REM sleep, whether or not the man is having an erotic dream.”

Surprisingly, men and women both report the same amount of dreams with sexual content, despite the fact that men experience sexual thoughts more frequently in everyday life.

Some other funny sex facts about dreams included the fact that while both men and women reported experiencing an orgasm in 4% of their dreams- women were the only ones who actually dreamed about their partners having an orgasm.

#3. YOUR BODY IS PARALYZED WHILE DREAMING

During the REM stage of your sleep, the body is paralyzed through a mechanism that keeps your body from moving physically because of the dream. It is also possible for this mechanism to occur during, before and after your sleep when your brain is fully awakened. A gland began to secrete a hormone that helps induce sleep and neurons send signals to the spinal cord which cause the body to relax and later essentially becomes paralyzed. That is the mystery behind why you can’t move so many times after you’re up and awake sometimes.

#4. YOU CAN HAVE DOZENS OF DREAM IN ONE SINGLE NIGHT

It’s not just one dream per night, but rather dozens of them, say experts – you just may not remember them all. “We dream every 90 minutes throughout the night, with each cycle of dreaming being longer than the previous,” a report says. It is estimated that most people have more than 100,000 dreams in a lifetime. It is actually a series of different incidents taking place simultaneously.

#5. YOU CAN STAY IN A DREAM EVEN AFTER YOU HAVE WOKEN UP

Have you ever woken up from such a beautiful, perfect dream that you wished you could go back to sleep to soak it all up? You can! Just lie still, don’t move a muscle and you can remain in a semi-dreamlike state for a few minutes. “Remain in the position you woke up in, because that is the position you were dreaming in. When you move your body, you disconnect yourself from the dream you were just in seconds ago.”

#6. DREAMING HELPS US IN LEARNING

If you’re studying for a test or trying to learn a new task, you might consider taking a nap or heading to bed early rather than hovering over a textbook an hour longer. Here’s why: When the brain dreams, it helps you learn and solve problems. In a study, researchers report that dreams are the brain’s way of processing, and understanding new information. To improve the quality of your sleep and your brain’s ability to learn avoid noise in the bedroom, such as the TV, which may negatively impact quality of dreams.

#7. LUCID DREAMING

Remember the movie Inception?  that people can take the reins of their dreams and make them what they want them to be! But it happens. According to a survey of 3,000 people, dream control, or “lucid dreaming” may be a real thing.

For most people, dreaming is a passive state where the impossible is possible and is another reality we experience, totally separate from our normal lives. While the image may be extremely vivid in the moment, they quickly fade away as we wake up.

Yet not all dreams are like this. Lucid dreams are dreams where you are conscious that you are dreaming but your brain is still in the state of sleep. Approx. 505 of people have experienced a lucid dream in their life, though the amount of people who experience lucid dreams on a regular basis is significantly lower.

The good part is that you can often control your dreams. You can manipulate, twist and turn the beginning and the ending of your dreams like it’s a movie being shot in front of you. It is called the “Lucid dreaming” (one is aware that he/she is dreaming) phase.
