Seems like our Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi is totally set on doing justice to his slogan ‘achche din aa gaye’. The PM has launched three mega projects for the urbanization of India. These projects are going to be the largest infrastructure missions. A whopping amount of almost Rs. 4 lakh crore has been set aside for these projects and will be utilized on these projects in the next 5 years. These schemes have been formulated with a vision to urbanize India and provide housing for all by the year 2022.
The PM had this to say on the urbanization and housing project, “Effective management of growing urbanization is a major challenge in making of resurgent India. Resource management is a major challenge and our government sees an opportunity in this”. A 2 day workshop will be conducted by the PM to share his plan and aspirations regarding this project. It will be attended by more than 1000 mayors, State level ministers and DM’s from all over the country.
- 100 Smart Cities – As the name suggests, 100 smart cities will be created across India. Rs. 48,000 crore have been set aside for this project. A fixed number of cities have been allocated to each state based on their population and area. The most eligible city from the group of nominated cities will be determined by a ‘City Challenge Competition’. New Delhi, J & K, Goa, Assam, Chandigarh, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala and Jharkhand will get one smart city each. 2 smart cities each for Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Telangana. 3 each for Punjab, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh. 4 each for Rajasthan and West Bengal. 6 each for Gujarat and Karnataka. 12 smart cities have been allocated for Tamil Nadu and 13 for Bihar.
- AMRUT – It stands for Atal Mission for Rejuvination and Urban Transformation. It is going to be launched for 500 cities. 30% of the overall cost will be provided by the Central Government if the population is more than 10 lakh and, 50% if it is less than 10 lakh. The cities will be recommended by the state. 64 cities have been set aside for UP, 33 for Tamil Nadu, 37 for Maharashtra, 31 each for Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh, 30 for Rajasthan, 28 for West Bengal, 27 for Bihar, 21 for Karnataka, 19 each for Odisha and Haryana, 18 for Kerala, 17 for Punjab, 15 for Telangana and 10 for Chhattisgarh.
- Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – This scheme is meant to provide housing for all by the year 2022. In this scheme, more than 2 crores home will be built in the coming 7 years, in all the urban locations. It’s main aim is to provide housing to SC/ST’s, Women and people belonging to the Economically Weaker Sections. A grant of 1-2.5 lakh will be provided to every home by the Central Government.
