The Indian Space Research Organized is a highly motivated and robust space agency that has proved its potentials through accomplishments that gained worldwide fame. ISRO is the only space organization after NASA that has been successful in its MARS Mission. The Mars Orbiter Mission was its first venture into the interplanetary space and was designed to study the surface features, morphology, mineralogy and the Martian atmosphere. The year 2015 is extremely important as ISRO is set to launch five foreign satellites, four navigation satellites, and one communication satellite. India and the US have collaborated to put their earth observation satellite NISAR in orbit. By such extraordinary achievements, ISRO has proven its potentials and made India proud once again!
Here is a list of three missions of ISRO which is set to make India proud all over again.
1. PSLV-C28 / DMC3 Mission:
Although the thirtieth international mission, yet this Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle is the highest commercial payload to date. The three DMC3 satellites have been built by Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (SSTL), United Kingdom (UK). The total weight of satellite along with the launch vehicle was 1,450kg. These satellites will be put into a constellation surrounding the Earth in a solar-synchronous orbit.
The main results out of this launch would be-
Earth resource observation
examining urban infrastructure
observing large scale climate changes
monitoring disasters
The other two auxiliary satellites in the PSLV-28 would be-
CBNT-1, a technology demonstrator earth observation micro satellite (SSTL)
De-OrbitSail, a technology demonstrator nanosatellite (Surrey Space Centre)
2. PSLV-C27/IRNSS-1D Mission:
This Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS)-1D launch was the fourth in its series, this time onboard PSLV-C27. It is now in comparison with the US Space technology of Global Positioning System (GPS).
Facilities provided by this satellite are mainly of providing accuracy in positioning-
navigation
tracking and mapping services
Parts of this satellite would be-
navigation payload
CDMA ranging payload
laser retro-reflector
This satellite costing around approximately 1,400 crore Rupees was placed into a geosynchronous orbit from Satish Dhawan Space Center, Sriharikota.
3. GSAT-16:
GSAT-16 was placed in orbit by Ariane 5 rocket and launched from the spaceport of Kourou in French Guiana into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).
Special features of this satellite are-
DIRECTV-14 (space systems/loral) that will give direct-to-home television broadcasts in the US
It carries 48 communication transponders
It will facilitate public and private TV as well as Radio Services
Also, extensive internet and telecommunication
