A bloody red waterfall, an island decorated with mutilated dolls, a lake full of human skeletons, UFO bases emerging out of the ground, all these things sound like a plot of a typical horror movie, right? But what if I tell you, these occurrences are no elements of fiction. Yes, these places exist in reality. Every place in this list is associated with a mystery of its own, most of them unexplained. Whether they are true or just made up rumors, nobody knows. But nonetheless, they make an interesting read.
10. BLOOD FALLS, ANTARCTICA.
Very few people are lucky enough to witness this unusually fascinating fall. Even in photographs, this sight is arresting: a bloody red flow amidst the snow clad glacier! The reason behind this mysterious red flow lies in its source, a subterranean lake. The rich iron content of this lake is what gives the water its red hue.
9. THE BERMUDA TRIANGLE.
The Bermuda Triangle is a section of Atlantic ocean roughly bounded by Miami, Bermuda and Puerto Rico and is known because of the dozens of ships and airplanes that have mysteriously disappeared in its vicinity. The unusual thing about these disappearances is that, most of them took place in good weather with no signals of distress dispatched through the radio. Numerous fanciful theories have been proposed to explain these disappearances, but none of them have any concrete proof.
8. AOKIGAHARA SUICIDE FOREST, JAPAN.
This 35 square kilometre dense forest that lies at the northwest base of Mount Fuji in Japan, is the second most popular place for suicides in the world. This forest has a historic association with demons in the Japanese mythology. In 2010 only, around 59 people committed suicide in this forest. The suicide rate has grown so high that the officials have even put out signs there displaying messages like, “Think about your family” or “Life is precious, don’t end it”.
7. THE DELHI CANTT, INDIA.
It is said that if you are travelling through this islolated and lush area of Delhi Cantt at an untimely hour, you encounter a lady wearing a white saree, like typical Indian ghosts do. She asks for lifts from people who are passing by, by knocking on their doors. If you speed up your car, she is said to match up to your speed. And for obvious reasons, stopping your car is not a wise option.
6. DUMAS BEACH, GUJARAT, INDIA.
Famous for its black sand, this beach is a popular tourist destination in South Gujarat. The local population believes that this beach is haunted, and some even claimed to have experienced paranormal activities. There have been reports of tourists missing in the past here. The localites warn the people not to stroll this beach at night.
5. KONGKA LA PASS, INDO-CHINA BORDER.
This place would give a hope to all those who believe in the existence extra terrestrial life. People from both sides of the border have reported multiple UFO sightings in this area. Some have even reported seeing underground UFO bases emerging from the ground. However, the entry to this enigmatic place is restricted and tourists are not allowed here.
4. THE ALEYA GHOST LIGHTS, WEST BENGAL, INDIA.
A strange phenomenon, popularly known as the Aleya Ghost Lights, occurs in the dark and murky swamps of West Bengal. Mysterious colorful lights are seen appearing in the swamps and if someone follows these lights, it may lead to drowning. Some people believe that these are the souls of dead fishermen appearing to warn about the dangers ahead. A rational theory suggests that these lights are results of ionization effects of gases formed by decomposing organic matter.
3. THE SKELETON LAKE, ROOPKUND, UTTARAKHAND, INDIA.
Popularly knwon as the Mystery Lake, and rightly so, several human skeletons are said to be visible in its shallow water. Some of the theories say that these skeletons are a effect of mass death and belong to the 9th century AD. However, the creepy thing is, National Geographic suspected, after investigating, that some of the bones still had flesh on them!
2. BHANGARH FORT, INDIA.
Bhangarh fort is known as one of the most haunted places in India. It is believed that those who stay in this fort post sunset are never to be found again. The number of paranormal experiences reported in this area is so damn high, that The Archaelogical Survey of India has put a board there stating that no one is allowed to stay in the fort before dawn and after dusk. This place is beleived to be under a curse of a wizard!

1. THE ISLAND OF DOLLS, MEXICO.
This is one of the places that I would never want to visit even in my dreams!
Almost every single tree on this island is decorated with deformed and mutilated dolls. As you walks on this island, it supposedly feels like you are constantly being watched. And to make things worse, this island is said to be haunted! Over 50 years ago, a man named Don Julian Santana left his family and came to live here alone, on this abandoned island. While he was living there, a body of a dead little girl came floating in one of the canals. Don Julian believed that he was haunted by her spirit. It is said that he decorated the island with dolls as a shrine for her spirit. He would trade vegetables and fruits in exchange of any dolls!
